Dance
GCSE Dance is a diverse, interesting and highly practical course. Over the two years you will explore a varitry of dance styles. You will learn how to structure and create dances (choreography), develop performance skills and build analysis skills to enable you to understand and evaluate dance works.

Should I take dance at GCSE?
Yes if you:
- Have a passion for dance.
- Are enthusiastic and open-minded to varying styles of dance.
- Enjoy performing your work in front of others.
- Have a keen interest in making up dances.
- Want to develop your communciation skills and enjoy working as part of a team.
- Are committed to hard work and are prepared to put in the time to practice and refine your dancing ability.
Teaching Strategies
You will take part in practical and theory lessons every week. You will be learning teacher led choreography and be supported with choreography work based on a set theme. Professional dance works will be studied with the opportunity to watch a live performance.
Assesement
GCSE Dance in 80% practical and 20& theroy. The course is broken down into 4 units:
- Unit 1: Critical appreciation of dance. Written examination externally assessed. (20%)
- Unit 2: Set dance, practical examination, externally assesed. (20%)
- Unit 3: Performance in a duo/group dance. (20%)
- Unit 4: Choreography, controlled assessment. (40%)
Beyond GCSE
This is a favourable qualification for pupils who would like to pursue dance/performing arts in the future. GCSE Dance is also provides a fantastic opprtunity to develop confidence, cooperation and creativity.
